Just installed a switch for amp...

that is what I thought. The "switch" is the on off button on the stereo. Any way I think I figured out the problem. The belt on the alternator was so damn loose, it was hardly spinning the alternator therefore not charging it. It is on a 1971 chevy pick up wit a 250 inline 6. Thank you for all your comments. They did help me.

not necessarily the button but when you turn your truck on the amp comes on and when you cut it off the amp goes off.

so do you think a switch between amp and remote wire is worthwhile? just to be damn sure the amp is off?

No. If you turn off your truck and the amp light goes out it's off
