Just got a Ranger 4x4, need some ideas and help!

But u dnt think the 8.8 and dana 35 will be needed? I should be ok with the 7.5 and dana 28?

not to sound rude but you need to do more reading and search this forum.

a lot of questions youve been asking have been covered a million times already.

regearing is expensive. your axles are weak and not worth much.

more info

I love to reasearch stuff and found that if you plan on LIFTING and WHEELIN the D28 can use the elcheapo lift kit($268.00 on ebay with you getting longer shocks and a drop pitman) where as the d35 (this is from the tech section) might get PUNCTURED from over zealous flexing if the cheap kits are used. I think the d28/7.5 is fine for moderate wheeling with less than 200hp -there are at least 2 people on here that did V-8 swaps and kept them without incident. If you are going to lift by all means REGEAR - but if you are going to leave it alone and keep the 3.74 gears then get some 30-9.50R15 DESTINATION M/T's they are the best.Since I started this hobby about 4:yahoo: months ago I wheel at LEAST once a week and the little Ranger has yet to strand me ,even with the d28 and 7.5 all the big trucks talk bad about I have done the NACHES TRAIL (1175 &694) twice,EVANS CREEK ,Tahuya state forest, and the Olympic state forest and these little RANGERS won't quit !BTW mine was a $400.00 POS we got off CRAIGSLIST in the dark and had to PUSH START -at the gas station on the way home we had NO ebrake so my friend held the truck still while I filled it up STILL RUNNING!!!:icon_rofl: It's come a long way in 4 months!:icon_thumby:

got gears on here

I got front and rear 4.56 gears and a LOCKRIGHT(locker is for front just not installed yet but gears are) locker off this forum here for $200.00 and the guy even brought them here to the store! no b/s gears and a locker -I told you I love this RANGER STATION thing :icon_hornsup:

I am buying a fuel sending unit with the pump for $109. Will be here tomorrow. Maybe I will get the fuel gauge working again so I won't be stranded!

Still undecided whether to get the pilot bearing (if that's whats making the noise) or get the complete clutch assembly. My clutch feels fine though.

Probably try to get my truck allign too and maybe find some tires.

Thinking I will get a master cylinder tomorrow since it is leaking behind it. Booster should be fine.

Got a fuel sending unit with pump for $109....

One of the hanger bolts is rusted so I might take the bed off...unless I cut it off but don't feel like paying $22 for another set of hangers.

Called a junkyard, they want $50 for a cluster with tach in it! WTF?!

They also wanted $35 for each door panel.. :-\

Got my fuel needle working again! The fuel sending unit was kinda a pain to put on some since I didn't have no jack for the tank and I had to hold it and like use my whole body to get it right. Only had my brother help me. It was easy though.

I didn't know there was 2 fuel pumps on this thing (one on the frame and one in tank). I was basically running on one pump! Lol.

No. Cause I didn't steal the money I put into it....

Don't have mommy and daddy giving me money everyday ;)

Well I filled the gas tank up nearly from what my needle says...currently sitting on around 194 miles and it is past Empty some.

I mean that sucks..

Let's say I get 200 miles with a full tank

200/15 gallons (tank capacity)= 13.3 mpg (13)!!

LIKE WTF?!?!

My 460 in my 79 on 38s can get that much....

I think I am smelling gas but not sure.....
Think I didn't put a hose back in my vent cap on the tank when I put the tank back on.

But anyways...13 mpg with a 2.3L-4 CYLINDER engine! WTF!?!?!?!

I've been driving 55 to 60 tops.

Like wtf?

Calculate miles per gallon NOT miles per tank. Just because the gauge is reading about halfway empty, doesn't mean you have exactly 7.5 gallons in it. Gas gauges in general are not accurate.

also with a different engine, probably not stock size tires, and different gearing than what the original motor had, I would bet my left nut that youre actually doing more miles than that.

Get a GPS and clock how many miles you are actually doing, and then report back with numbers.

I get 16 with my 4.0 L turning 33s with 4.56 gears, and my truck weighs in at 4500 lbs.

Well I know that the rear has v6 gears in it (3.73) so I am going to have to get 4.10

the term 'v6' gears is useless, there are a host of gear ratios that came in our trucks with a v6, from 3.27 all the way to 4.10, so saying you have 'v6' gears is redundant.

not to mention tire size will throw off the calibration as well.

unless you go on a trip in which you know the length of, or use a GPS as I previously suggested, I wouldnt trust your odometer for shit.

Lol. Truck had a V6 engine in it before they swapped in the 2.3L. From what I heard most of these had the 3.73 gears with the V6. My tires are 7.00 x 15lt.

Again like Nathan said, dosnt matter what engine you have there are many possiblilites, check your door code, and go into the tech library and figure out your gearing, you cant just guess
