When you say gears you're talking about the transmission gears right, if so I have an auto and leaving it in 1st would not be benificial for the long haul of 126 miles round trip on that beach, espicailly with the size of the fuel tank. I guess I'm not following completely when it comes down to it though. I might need it in a little plainer english, seriously.

Are you saying you drive 126 miles in 2nd gear on the beach? I'm saying that the only point of a gear swap is if you are needing a gear you don't already have. Like if 2nd is too high and 1st is too low--then you need to switch axle ratios to get that gear.

Better yet, drive in low range. That should give you 2 gears in there.

I shit canned the stock rad from my 88 2.9 auto and installed a new 4.0 rad, best thing I ever did for the truck.

Here in Nevada it get's hot in the summer and I wheel in comfort with the A/C on ...

Nice I am looking to do the same swap in mine

Maybe this will help. I think I got the ratios right for the A4LD. You can change your rpms and your gears and see what you can come up with. But using 4L instead of 2H you are right where you need to be I'm guessing.
