I was browsing though the local Pick-n-pull and found this!

a four into one hedder for a 2.3 liter do they even make these any more?

yep its a Hedman

after about 20 mins here she is i paid 24 bucks, hopfully i'll get a couple extra horsepower out of her. i'm going to sand it down and paint it before installing it.

That's a rare find. I didn't know that Hedman used to make those. I wonder why they stopped the production...

Good price for a long tube header...I think I paid $50 for my shorty...

Doesn't the long tube require a longer duration cam and bigger valves to work properly? I remember someone giving a warning...something about not enough back pressure with stock parts...

not sure about any of that but i recently had the head completly rebuild with new parts so hopfully that may help if your right

if they mentioned "back pressure" in refference to a 4 stroke, chances are high they didnt know what they were talking about.

a long tube will make an improvement on even a stock engine...good find!

It was long ago, in a galaxy far, far away...so I don't recall exactly what I was told back then...but the long tube header needs engine mods to fully reap the benefits...

yes i see what your talking about but i'm sure being stock i'll still get something out of it even if short tubes are better. thanks for the info none-the-less. if i ever run across short tubes i'll buy'em too.

The shorties are stock on 93 and up 2.3 litre engines in the Ranger and Mazda B series trucks...I got one from a 93 Mazda and replaced the cast-iron manifold that came with the original 2.0 motor...instant improvement...less weight...better flow...but, of course, mine was still restricted by the stock cat and tubes...that I some day hope to upgrade...

If you're talking about a CARBURETED four stroke engine, the header MIGHT change the mixture, but I doubt it.


On a EFI vehicle, not likely.


A very good score.....blasting it clean and painting it with something decent might prolong that possibly rare item.

If you look at Aerostars Ford made 4cyl aerostars from 1985 until about 1990

They all came with a Tri-Y style long tube header.

I have one here but I never actually tried to put it onto my 4cyl ranger.

Early fox 4cyl mustangs also came from the factory with a long tube
(four-into-one style like the headman pictured above)
