Jeep front axles?

Wanting to do a sas. Do jeep front axles have to be narrowed? Id like to skip the narrowing step because I really don't trust myself doing it

If you're thinking of using a dana 30, the axles from a yj, tj, xj or zj are about the same width as a rbv. If you're thinking of using something else, that's a difference story.

No not a 30. But I've found a few jeep 44s

to my knowledge the only jeep 44 that is the correct width would be from a TJ rubicon. good luck on finding one of them.

'80s Jeep Wagoneer D44 fronts are very close to RBV width (IIRC only a very slight hair wider), have a driverside pumpkin, but have leaf spring perches, making for a bit more work needed to use it with coils than would a F-150 D44... With the narrowing of the F-150 axle, it's probably a wash either way, in which case I'd use the F-150 axle because it's hi-pinion.

The TJ D44 front isn't a whole lot better than the D30 (same-size outers & knuckles, and I believe the same housing thickness).

Have you thought about a D35 from an Explorer? Sure it's not a 'solid axle', but is pretty much the same strength & reliability as one, and it bolts in.

Well I was talking to a friend who is sadly going to scrap his 79 f150 highboy when all that's wrong is some body damage. But I'm buying his axles off him for 250. (Front dana 44 and rear 9 inch) what other things would I need off the truck such as tie rods, steering components etc. I will be narrowing these axles.
