Since there is no tools forum, I suspect most wheel/tire experts will have had to use a jack once in a while :D

I was recently looking for a new jack. My last jack was a POS, and my good ol' faithful jack is a bit short and hard to use on the Ranger. It was bought way way back in college to fit in the back of a '78 Honda Civic full of tools and parts. So I bought the smallest "real" jack I could get. I wore out the scissors jack that came with the car.

Anyway, while looking at jacks, I noticed almost all the jacks said "racing jacks". What the heck is a racing jack :icon_confused: They don't look very fast.......

Just take a ride down to princess auto, they have a selection of jacks that will suit your needs for a reasonable price.

doubt most are really "racing" jacks. racing jacks are usually light weight, aluminum floor jacks with an unusually high lift advantage, ie: 2-3 full strokes and you're several inches off the ground. just like you see in the nascar pit stops. 2 pumps and the car is high enough up to change tires and wheels.
i bought a 2-ton scissors jack that goes 20" high that i carry in my truck. paid about $40 for it at Northern Tool. no one else had one that big. when going off road i also carry my high-lift farm jack. i see they are making a high-lift (or knock-off brand) that is only 36" inches tall now if that would better serve your needs. try one of the fleet/farm, tractor supply, type stores to find one of those.

i have about 6 jacks. ranging from $20-$250. the more expensive ones are the ones i have had problems with. especially the larin 4 ton jack i bought.... worked a week, took it back, worked twice, took it back. the best one i bought (its a racing jack, aluminum, quick lift, and low lifting platform) from autozone (believe it or not) i usually hate autozone tools, but it works well with no problems in 2 years. its pretty quality made even though "warning" is spelled "warnig" on the label! lol. the absolute best one ive ever bought was a brunoezel, or how ever you spell it.... very expensive, very good jack. i like to have at least one racing jack for smaller jobs, and one large one for heavy jobs.

That is where I bought the new jack.

That makes sense. Thanks.

I have a Craftsman 2 ton floor jack for the garage that I have had for several years now and I have my beloved Hi-Lift-Jack attached to my Ranger all the time.

I am a 'Jack of all trades'.....lol

:icon_thumby: I have a hi-lift jack that I bought for a jeep I owned. I needed something that would reach the bumper.

My Hi-Lift came with a bumper attachment. It is fine to use if you don't have a body lift. I have a body lift and I don't want to use it. I have front and rear receiver hitches and I can use the Hi-Lift on them if I do need it on the road. I can also use it on my nerf bars as well.

Mine doesn't have a bumper attachment. I just used a block of wood under the bumper. But then my jeep looked a lot like this (although this isn't mine):
