Im about to drop a carburated 302 in my 90 ranger but im not sure how the wiring process works. I have a fuel injected 4 cyl any help would be appreciated

factory start wire to starter, factory ground from frame to block, ground from windshield wiper to intake bolt, and then wire up whatever disturburator you have

i use a duraspark II, and cut the coils positive from the factory 2.9l harness,(didn't use the ground) for key on to the duraspark module and coil) and 3 wires to the distributer from the module and one to the starter terminal(where the starter wire goes to the starter), then the negative to the coil comes from the duraspark module, gonna mount the module on a metal plate behind the d driverside headlight, under coolant tank

then you just gotta run your wiring for your guages, tac to negative terminal on the coil, and oil and water should be in the factory harness from the 2.3(accedentaily threw mine away, so i got to trace them down :( will be easy though)

also had to remove the high pressure fuel pump from the tank, or u can run a regualator with a return line

there other stuff to depending on your setup, like fuel pump and electric fan(running mine to 2 switches, 1 for fan(on-off-on 2 speed fan) and 1 for fuel pump(easily could run it to a key on soure, but i want control over it)

sounds like alot but carb is a piece of cake after attempting to wire fuelijection
plan on having mine running on its own power in 10 days(this saterday get the few little parts i need, the following saterday, install them and add fluids and vroom vroom

i have had many bumps in my swap(first one), all i got to say is its discouraging sometimes, but once you here you truck come to life for the first time the feeling is undescribable

im guessing with my duraspark dist and my stock 2.3 carb harness i could use this same guideline?

just use a voltmeter, im not sure on the 2.3, but it should pretty much be the same, i got a 89, but should be the same,(and i used the 2.9 coil)

basically is simple form, duraspark module has 6 wires in 2 groups
(look at diagram for colors)
1st group
1 wire goes to positive on coil, and to key on source(i got mine from the factory coil positive)
2nd wire goes to the PS fender well starter relay, hooked it to the top of the big wire that runs down to the starter, ran it threw the inside of the top of the core suporrt

group 2
3 wires got directly to distributor, match color for color
4th wire to - on your coil

easy, and the rest i said above for the grounds and starter, etc, should get you going

im running a mr gasket 12s fuel pump, gutted high pressure pump in tank, for fuel(will probally upgrade to a holly) and a motocraft 2150

so there your spark, fuel, and air, if i didnt flood mine the first time i tryed to start it, i bet it would have started the first time i turned the key,

ps.

if your rrunning a coil like the 2.9l , take it off and look inside, next to the terminals they are marked, + and - and as far as the wire diagram goes in the tech section they are reversed on the coil

so like i said just check

for 2.8 but the same for 302 duraspark, minus part #s and the A4ld part

forgot about the alternator, mine was plug and go, the 2.9 alternator was the same as my f150 alternator i used(91), so cant help you there
