Last night someone popped the read sliding window open on my 89 Ranger and unlocked the door and stole everything from my glove box... (Owners Manual, Registration, Insurance card, and my Hunting Survival knife) I have no idea why someone would just steal that stuff... I could see why they would take the knife.. but the other stuff really come on! :annoyed:

end rant.

To steal your identity. Now there are two of you, hint... silent alarm/good dog and or massive fire power.

Fo' Sho'. Pop a cap in dat biznitch over a potential threat. Lives is a dime a dozen yo.

well with your ownership, they can flip the truck into their name, and you'll have a hell of a time proving you didnt sell it to the guy. basically legally taking the truck. its been done before.

In which case call the police and file a report, if anything just to file the report and document what was stolen and when.

A lot of times thieves steal things just for the sake of stealing them, if they can get away with it. Often they really don't need what they steal.

I dunno how it works in Canadia, but at least in PA you need a lot more than just the registration card to do that. A transfer of ownership requires the title be signed by both parties, at a notary or dealership, and they make copies of the driver's licenses of everyone involved and all that good stuff.

in arkansas all it takes is title thats been signed, so as long as they dont have youre title youre good.

but deffinately file a police report, you probably arent the first and wont be the last, it starts off with small stuff but in no time this guy will be stealing cars and holding up stores. So help them get him now before he hurts someone

yea in canada, or atleast ontario, you only need a signature on the back, and the new owner can fill out everything. make a fake bill of sale hand written, its amazing its not done more often.

It would be pretty stupid after the truck has been reported broken into to try to sign it over in your name.

Well its also not too bright to allow transfer of ownership with just a signed reg card. But thus is Canadia.

true, though alot of ppl would rather not bother reporting it, or if its flipped before being reported.

They won't know if it has or hasn't been reported though. That might make for a mighty awkward moment down at the courthouse.

maybe its time to look into a better designed window latch like this one http://www.therangerstation.com/Magazine/Feb04/tech.htm? but really im suprised they didnt just smash out your window to get into the truck. as was said by others, if they just took youre registration card and proof of insurance i dont think youre in any danger other than them having some of your information, in michigan you need a signed title to transfer ownership.

The truck is no longer registered and has no insurance and has been sold to a family member and I have a new truck as of this morning. The insurance company was alerted.

In New Hampshire if its more than 15 years old the vehicle doesnt need a title just a bill of sale and the vin verified which they say use an old registration from the previous owner. So in essence someone could pull the same shit here
