is this a good or bad ranger

thanks for the advice. I trying to talk my parents into matching my fund so hopefully I will have about 8 grand to play with. As for the truck I liked the 95 for price and distance but if the ranger gods would drop a brand new ranger in my lap i would be fine with that. by the way I am very happy with the response time on here for only being a member for 24hrs.

i love my 2.3 ranger i actually hauled a ton of roofing shingles to the dump in mine and the dump was 8 miles away .....and yes she groaned and compained but it hauled well enough

Plan on 7 grand if you get matching funds. That way you have cash for repairs and other expenses.

+1 good call!

almost every used vehicle needs work

for me, every "new" vehicle i get, gets a new sets of pads and rotors, an oil change and depending on the vehicle and my funds at hand, a whole driveline of new fluid...

my ranger got all new fluid in all of the driveline components, 15000km before the first one was due, and something like 90 000km before the front diff was due

Ford switched the Ranger over to OBDII about halfway through the '95 year. My Truck's got it. :icon_thumby:
Most states only test 96 and up vehicles.

You say that like its a good thing. That only makes it harder to diag a problem.
Easier to get an inspection. If your smart enough you can figure out the problem regardless.

IMO a 2.3l would do just fine hauling mowing equipment and clippings around haha

I think its a good looking truck and a great starter truck...

My first truck is my dads old 84 ranger, I had to fix it on occasion but most of the stuff that broke was so simple or it just needed basic maintainance, its a 2.8L 5spd 4x4. Loved that truck so much that I'm going to try and restore it and fix all my half ass repairs.

The truck I have now is a 3.0L 5spd 4x4 and I love it. I honestly don't know why everyone thinks the 3.0L is slow and sucks and has no power becuase I haven't noticed that yet! I have a 4x4 with 31's and 3.73s which is apparently death to the 3.0L but I can get it up to 100mph no problem, don't have a problem accelerating off of stop lights or passing... I've hauls a couple thousand lb's of wood and other crap in the back and noticed it for sure but since i don't haul loads like that regularly it doesn't bother me. Honestly when I bought the truck I thought it had the 4.0L when I test drove it and was surprised to find the 3.0L under the hood. My friend also has a 93 3.0L 2wd 5spd like that one except its an extended cab and he loves it. It will haul just about any lawn equipment you need and then some, a good amount of power but not too much that you would be spinning out in the winter time, and frankly I can pull about 24mpg hwy with my 4x4 and my friend usually sees about 27mpg with his 2wd... Also the 3.0L is hella reliable and should last a really long time.

I would head over and see how you like the feel of the truck, take it for a test drive. That is honestly the most important thing... If YOU drive it and YOU like the power and YOU like the feel of it then YOU like the truck, people here can only give opinions... I love my 3.0L despite people saying I should have got the 4.0L or swap in a 4.0L or 5.0L its so much better, frankly i drove the truck and just loved it out of all the vehicles I drove with 4cyl and 4.0L the 3.0L was the one I loved.

yeah a 4 bagger is not for me. Maybe later in life but no now ( Come to think of it no ranger is big on power I should just drive my dads camaro ) You guy have very good advice by the way. It sad that the new ranger is not coming to the states.

Also with 95 you would get a dual piston front brake set up that is better then -94 years & also its easier to replace brake pads due to the bolts holding the caliper compared to the wedges that attach the pre 95 rangers

original 84 ranger I thank you, you made such a great point.

truck was gone long ago. I am looking at other rangers and some dodge rams. So you may let the tread die.
