Is this a common air filter box?

I have one, but some previous owner helpfully drilled about a dozen holes in the back of it. I'm wondering if it was used on early 4 cyl Rangers, as the Clymer manual claims. If so, I may have some luck cruising the wrecking yard. If not, I'll save my efforts for plugging the holes in the one I have with E6000 sealant.

Is that a 2.3L turbo or a turbo diesel?

are the holes causing a problem? People usually do that for more airflow.

The airbox draws its air from a snorkel in the grille of the truck. This air is cooler than that under the hood, and apparently cleaner, because the filter has dirty spots in each location that there's a hole. Keeping the intake air cool is important in a diesel, even with an intercooler.

I've thought about using the stock air box from a gas Ranger, but I like the way the diesel one works, it clips together, rather than requiring half a dozen screws to be removed. Also the filter panel is bigger, meaning less restriction.
