Is the Ranger on its way out?

After reading my post it looks a little like I'm bashing these trucks on the size. The only think I don't like about the size is the lack of space behind the seat on the regular cab. I don't need a lot of space, which is why I opted for a regular cab. However it's annoying when I put my bookbag behind my seat and not being able to have the seat as far back as I usually do. Plus there's really no space for storage in the cab itself. I got a cd book that pretty much takes up a sizable part of the area behind the seat. I do have a tounel cover which was on the truck when I purchased it but when I put things in there they just get tossed around. I am looking into purchasing an in bed tool box that comes up just short of the top of the bed.

I do hope that ford can pull themselves out on this truck. I also wish that it was easier to find a 4cyl 4wd w/ a 5spd. I don't like or want an auto and I dont need more than a 4cly. I just wish I had 4wd, maybe oneday there'll be a tranny swap going on for my truck.

They haven't offered a 4 cyl 4x4 at all since about 1997. When they did, the 4 banger 4x4's all came with a 5 speed stick and 4.10 gears.
OTOH, my first Ranger was a 1999 4x4 SC with a 3.0/stick and it was slow as molasses.

Ranger Crew Cab Already Alive and Well

There is already a Ranger crew cab sold throughout the rest of the world (less US and Canada, as far as I know). I'm sure that Ford only keeps it off the US market to enjoy the higher profit margin on the terribly overpriced (and silly looking) Explorer Sport Trac, which has bells & whistles I suppose many Ranger owners (like me) don't want.

I'm about to be assigned in Bahrain for the next year, and I'm working on buying one used and bringing it back to the US. I just need to figure out what the emissions changes are I need to make to make it US legal. Anyone have any ideas on this?

Amen Brother, I went in on my birthday this month to our local Ford dealership and told them that I wanted a: Torch Red SuperCab Xl model with chrome wheels, A/C, Tilt/Cruise and a AM/FM Stereo and CD player. They tried to sell me an orange sport, then a dark blue XL regular cab. They asked me what they had to do to get my business and I replied "LISTEN TO ME" They got off the dime and found my truck at a Washington dealership and had it driven down the next morning to the Oregon Coast. Still I didn't get chrome wheels but did get a sliding rear window, privacy glass, and jump seats in the cab. Its no fun trying to buy a vehicle these days. Then when I picked the truck up I had to deal with a guy that took an hour to explain to me what should have taken 10 minutes. I am glad the purchase is over and I have my truck. :-) :-)

I agree with the thing about just not putting them on the lots. There is a huge dealer I drive by all the time that literally usually had between 12 and 20 rangers lined up. Now its all F-150's, which apparently are multiplying like hobgoblins.

they wouldn't need a redesign, just put a diesel in it and people would be all over it. Around here they do advertise rangers, but they are always the 3.0L 2wd ones. Cant get the 3.0L 4wd in canada, but you can still get the 5spd 4.0L 4x4s. My dad owns an electrical contracting company and the majority of the company trucks are the 4cyl 2wds. Tough little trucks, never had a problem with any of them, and ya don't need a 1/2 ton every day.

i agree with boomer, i hate driving my dad's f-150. i'm a small guy, my left arm rests on the window when i drive my ranger, no where to put it on the f-150.

Engine is the major problem with the ranger, not that they are bad, but they are old - low power and inefficient. i was looking at an ad for FJs today, 4.0L v6 with 300hp. ranger 4.0L is 205?:dunno:

they complain about low sails then and builds concepts that people don't want. ie: fusion and bronco concepts came out the same time. everyone went crazy for the bronco. ford built the fusion. and now they are building that flex thing. What was with the superduty redesign? most of the superduty sales are to companies, all they look at is the price and reliability, they don't care how it looks.
