Right. In 97 ohv was the base Explorer engine, OHC was the upgraded "middle" engine, and the 5.0 was the premium, usually coming with full time AWD.

those motors were good but the all time awd sucked. I never wanted a 2wd so bad in my life driving that damn explorer with the all time awd. drove that sucker to the junk yard and got more from them than what I was selling it for online lol.

The good news is that you can swap the AWD transfer case out for a 4406 from an F150 for traditional part time 4wd.

Oh don't I know it. The worst part is when the fluid coupler goes and trashes the tires because the people keep driving it like that. People are usually upset enough to hear they need one or the other, they really hate hearing they need both together.
