is pop starting ur truck bad???

or you could carry a hammer with you and just give the starter a few good raps before turning they key! :D always worked for me to get by for a couoke days before replacing the starter.

So does anyone know if doing it in reverse is any worse then doing it in a forward gear?

Well, doing it in reverse would be bad if you were moving forward :icon_twisted:

Other than that I don't see how it would hurt. Also it is important to note that this usually doesn't work when the battery is dead because you have to have enough battery to run the fuel pump to get fuel to the engine.

Later starters are what are called PMGR starters. This stands for permanent magnet gear reduction starters. If you bang on them with hammers there is a danger of breaking the magnets. If you do this, the starter is toast, and this type starter is expensive.

You can start the truck in reverse if you do it easy as Copperhead said. Reverse is not syncro'd like the forward gears, and has a slider gear, idler gear that meshes with the cluster gear for the reverse function. Not quite as strong as the forward gearing, plus more slack added to the drive train.

The truck wll start in reverse the same as going forward as the engine is turning the same direction in either gear. The computers are designed for such a situation as the vehicle not having electrical power. As long as the alternator is working, there is not a problem.:)shady
