Is ok to remove bump stops?

I have a 2wd sport with torsion bars and my lower control arms are touching the bump stops so my question is can i remove them and will doing so improve the ride quality?

I haven't worked with your style front end but something isn't right. Bump stops are there to absorb an especially hard bump. If you are touching them at rest then maybe the torsion bars need setting. If you take them out then it will be sudden metal on metal contact and probably jarring and hard on the front end. You could possibly cut some of the rubber away but be aware that there is a metal core, it's not all rubber.

From what I've read. My truck and suspension are supposed to sit higher like the 4x4 but I can see over the last 11 year's the front has dropped some and i kind of like it. If i took out the bump stops I'd have 2-3 inches of space.

can you post a pic of the bump stops with a ruler next to it. I'm curious if your 2007 bump stop is different than earlier models.


about removing them, I can't see any way steel slamming into steel at 40~60 mph would improve ride quality.

I am currently running without my fronts because they disintegrated just a little bit, and I do not recommend it.

There are two intersections that I go through regularly, where no matter how gentle I am I hit. I have the saving grace of over-sized front tires and a little extra width on my axles, so I hit the tires on the fenders, rather than frame on arm, but it still sucks.

In an 07 Sport, your bump stops should not be even close to touching anything. If your at stock height.

Its 2wd with torsion bar front suspension and 190,000 miles on it. I've read that over time the front may sag or drop down a bit but didn't think that much.

I don't know how you are doing on pictures, but the one I would like to see is the adjuster at opposite end of torsion bar from wheel.

When Ford initially installed them, they applied lock-tite to them to prevent movement. If someone adjust them later (to raise/lower the truck) the lock-tite will be 'broken' and the adjuster bolts will back themselves completely out over time.

My '98 has same suspension, V-8, often hauls a camper yet hasn't sagged enough to hit bump stops.

My 01 sags in the front as well, but not even close to the bumbstops. I think the bushings (or lack there of) being OE has something to do with that though.
