is it stupid? any ideas on what i should do?

oh and no, i wont be offroading it. I just want a small truck that gets 20+ mpg and where i can sit up higher then my car.

Well then stick with the stock tires and height. Your definately not going to get 20+mpg with that setup.

I barely get 20 with my Stock 3.0 2wd!

I would leave it the way it is because you will drop your mileage/speed/accel a niticable amount and if you never go off road with it I would leave it the way it is but if you want to lift it I would get a 3" BL or suspension lift and go with some 31x9.50R15 or something maybe even 31x10.50R15 or like before 32x9.50R15 but remember the wider the tire the more weight the engine has to turn and the more friction on the road meaning performance drop.

So some 30"s or narrower 31"s will work way better for your truck.

Heres mine with a 3" BL and 31x10.50R15's gen 1 with carbed v6 and 1-2 mpg drop.
this is what it would look like.

Hope this helps

Why make you truck slower and get worse gas milage if you're keeping it on the street? Save your money man.

What kind of car do you have? I have yet to see a car that rode even half as high as a stock 4x4 Ranger.

well this all gives me a lot to think about. And right now im driving a '71 ford maverick.

hmm...how much fun is offroading?

hahaha. try it. you'll like it.
Its a blast, but your truck will never again be capable enough in your eyes. You will want it do more, and go further. and you will get stuck into the endless build-break-rebuild stronger cycle.

Its a great but demanding mistress.

Tell your dad that all the guys on the internet said it wouldn't tip over and that it was a great idea. I'm sure he's completely clueless since he was born as an adult and skipped his adolescent years altogether.

I think he is serious. And it would never tip.

'88, 3" BL, 32x1050 tires on factory 15x7 wheels. WIth coil spacers and blocks.

Looked like: -----
I I
I I
I I
------

With no sway bars F+R, felt a little tippy, but even stable for me and I have a rollover fear due to a jeep accident. And I was in some situations where I should have rolled.

As said a 3" suspension lift raises your COG more than a BL. THis is so because it also lifts the heavy ass engine even higher, whereas the BL keeps it inline.

Tell your dad you're doing it.

ROb

That thing was supposed to come out like a tall, thin rectangle.

No, I'm NOT serious.

What I was implying though, is that whether you'd like to believe it or not, your father just might be smarter than you. He just might have been a kid about your age at some point in time. Knowledge and wisdom often come from experience.....

What I AM serious about is that despite the fact that you're 18 and know everything there is to know, your father just might know better....

:icon_confused:

i think lifted trucks look awosome, i have a 4 inch lift and 30 inch tires(for now, the 33s come when i can pawn off the 30s on moms wrangler) , i wouldnt take the truck on a racetrack, but i have seen it done actually, with taller trucks

so if you like it, and you have the time and money to do it, do it

i know my dad is wayyyy smarter than me. I know where hes going with this, in his mind i think he thinks it will be really tall. But with all the pictures ive looked at and seen, a 3" body lift with 32's on it isnt that tall. Ive been meaning to show him pictures but havent gotten around to it yet. Either way, ive come to realize i dont know everything, that im not one of those teenages that thinks they do know everything. Ive learned a lot and my mind cant fathom what my dad knows. For all i know he could be right and probably is.

I just want to know if its as tall as he thinks it is.

my truck was an 89 and i had a 3" body lift and 33x12.5s... i beat that shit out of it and it didnt rub... heres a pic or two
