Is 150k miles TOO many miles??

yea i think i am gonna let it go... i mean i never even emailed him he found me since i put a wanted ad on craigslist...

i asked him if he knew exactly what axle he had and he just seems clueless and i dont wanna take a chance..

Same thing!

I dunno about this guy haha he emails me one time and says its posi, then the next he says its limited slip, then he said he changed the rear to a 373 posi, and now he said its limited slip again wtf!

Limited slip is sometimes called POSI! It means the same thing and IS the same thing. One guy likes positraction as a word and another likes limited slip.

The meaning is there are clutches inside the rearend. Without them clutches it is a LOCKER or a locked rearend. For street use the positraction (limited slip) is far better.

Whats the difference between a Locker and an open dif? BTW, Ford's name for LSD is "Traction-Lok"

If you want to get technical about it, a limited-slip and a positraction (posi) are the same thing. A locker is different. NO Ford truck was ever built with a factory locker AFAIK.

Ok!

There are three types of rearends..
1. Open differential ==== a standard differential! ONE wheel can spin on a slippery surface and the other will NOT SPIN! (we have all been there!)

2. Limited slip ==== A clutch system in the rearend that allows one wheel to spin for a few turns and then the clutches close and the OTHER wheel also spins, or has the power to pull the vehicle.

3. LOCKED rearend ==== A gear setup that turns both wheels at ALL times. Sometimes good for offroad use but TERRIBLY dangerous on slick streets. On any turn one wheel MUST slip a little... even on dry pavement.

Price sounds a little high unless the body is in great shape. Mechanically it sounds fine, just check everything out. He came to you so look it over and tell him yes or no.

Until now!! The F150 Raptor and the 2011 Super Duty is avaialble with a push button electric locker. Problem is the 50 or 60 grand price tag...........

'150's with a locker are not too bad though...

if i was you id atleast go check it out, i mean yea the guy sounds like an idiot, but for a 94 3.0 4x4 5spd it cant hurt to check a truck like that out. i got my 94 2wd 3.0 auto almost 3 years ago and paid 2000. it had 150k on it now its at 201 and i drive the hell out of it every day and have jauled machines and scrap many times. the 3.0 is a great motor and that could be a great truck

A little update on the truck he sent pics and it looks pretty decent...

he also said when he said posi he said he meant limited slip and said they are both the same...

he said he replaced the rear axle because he wanted Limited slip and it has the L/S 3.73 in it...

Here are the pics http://img11.imageshack.us/g/image2sh.jpg/

what do you guys think?

That's about what it'd bring down here with absolutly no rust. It looks pretty good in the pictures.
If you are doing e-mail send a missle to him saying... I'll come look at it for $XXX and if he says Ok then you have agreed on a UPPER PRICE. Go drive it around and around and crawl under it and so on to make up your mind if you want it or not for THAT agreed on price. If you want you can dicker from that price then.. "take or not"...
It is really hard to dicker on a price after you have decided you WANT a vehicle.
I buy all my vehicles that way, sight unseen, till I get there with the money.
