Interior Toolbox

yeah they should work fine. I only use th 1"x2" stuff cause I prefer the rectangle to square look (petty I know lol).

Sounds cool, though I dont plan on having to take mine out... hopefully, lmao

holy crap this is a good idea! I have random crap strewn across the floor during off roading trips, and hate putting it in the bed because it either flies out, or gets destroyed from bouncing around. I have two cubbies where the ext cab jump seats go, and those are already full with tie downs and tow straps. I think its time I get that sheet of plywood from my side yard and build something like this.... thanks for the idea!

Haha thanks! I think I am going to do a bi-fold lid on the top, this will allow the box to be opened up completely.

Here's an updated pic of the planning. I made it more accurate, as the side will obviously have to slant because of the driver's seat, and heres a pic of the bi-fold, so that it can be opened up all the way. Thoughts?

It would probably be easier to have the lid solid and hinged toward the rear window. Then you can lift it all the way up still and not have to worry about possible flimsyness of the bi-fold.

Ah, so this design: The only problem I would have figured was how far it could open, but that would be nice also because part of it could be accessable from the driver spot by reaching back, for something like a CB, in the future:

yup, exactly like that. I'm sure it would open a full 90*, until it hit the back of the cab. it would also make it possible to mount an accuator (on the mid-cab part) to keep it open.

Accuator? That one of the gas-operated shocks like on the toolboxes?

Well, I think i got this all planned out pretty much, now if the plow would open the road i could get to lowes and start framing tomorrow...

Thanks for the help!

Yeah, the gas shock, wrong term sorry. Im at work and check this in between tasks lol. Well I hope that plow makes his way through soon. Good luck and post some pics.

Haha thanks. Yeah, plow just went by finally, went to the local store for Mtn Dew and spark plugs, lmao.

Hopefully I can get to Lowes this week...

or, you could hinge the lid in the middle like the truck cross-bed boxes are and that way you can open it from either side without having to lift the whole lid. may not need struts doing that way as it whichever side will just lift up and fold all the way back. just a thought.

Yeah, I think I'm just going to do one whole lid that opens to the back. The struts/gas shocks would just be there to keep the lid open...

Thanks

i'm not a fan of the pneumatic struts as it has been so cold here, the ones on my topper are useless. if i could figure out a way to without them, i'd do it in a heart beat.
Really? I've never had problems with the toolboxes on our farm trucks.
