Interesting Trail Fix...?

-shadytree mechanics might have been the best car show ever conceived by man, i used to watch that show on tnn every sunday before church....they need to bring that back

i know, right? that show was awesome and realistic

-it's not propaganda, it's advertising, just like the burger king ad at the ballpark or football stadium

where it differs from the burger king ad is that the burger king ad at a stadium is offered in addition to the entertainment, as opposed to powerblock which is sold to us as entertainment but still has other ads in addition to it too. so sadly the layperson takes it as more credible, (and in the case of my friend dustin) makes a $100,000 life choice based from that false credibility.

its like when you would read the newspaper and when there was an article that lacked credibility it didn't suprise you when you saw the little "paid advertisement" label on it

not too terribly much detail needed on this one, but since wikipedia has no filter on who can contribute. more often than not the only individuals that ever contribute are those that have some interest in the subject... the definition of bias, but since the innacuracies are mixed in with the truths so seamlessly only those who already know otherwise can sniff out the b.s., but those aren't the individuals that are looking to wikipedia for info.

so long story short wikipedia is the one place online that has the most biassed information, purveyed only by those who have a serious interest, all published under the guise of "facts" and "information".......well that fits the definition of "propaganda" too

good explanation....i've used this same arguement for people that write letters to the editor in newspapers-they are not a 'cross section of the public opinion',but rather a biased view of those with enough interest to bother writing a letter.

interesting thread, i wanna chime in:

-instead of afro-engineering a wrench, you know what a really super easy fix would be? carrying an extra $8 u-joint and basic hand tools with you

-yes, breaking the craftsman wrench would be covered under the warranty, it's a lifetime warranty, they have to

-i dont know enough to have any input on the gears and the double speed wheel and all that crap, i'm just gonna make sure everything is hooked up like it should be and carry extra stuff for just in case's

-if anyone on TRS were gonna answer this question, i think gwaii would be the person that would have the most trustworthy advice......if you've seen his build thread (or the underside of his ranger) you'd agree....he had to do harder math under his truck than i did in all 5.5 years of college (yeah 5.5, big whoop, wanna fight about it? lol)

-what the hell is nitro circus? sounds like a show that would come on cartoon network

-as for powerblock, yeah it's biased as hell, but what isn't these days? as gwaii said, it's entertainment

-i only watch xtreme 4x4 b/c i like the shit they build and it's nice to see something built when you have an unlimited budget and access to every tool that's ever been invented....the host's voice drives me crazy tho, usually have to mute it

-if i remember correctly they did a "budget build" with a wrangler and dropped $5K into it, f**k that, if have $5k laying around i'm paying off my credit card....a budget build is when i take the leftover $63.18 from my paycheck and decided whether or not to buy extended brake lines or used lift brackets

-trucks is stupid now, seems like all they do is build street trucks and i hate that crap....plus the guy's are sort of d-bags

-shadytree mechanics might have been the best car show ever conceived by man, i used to watch that show on tnn every sunday before church....they need to bring that back

-as far as wyotech goes, i would never spend over a $100K on a school unless it was harvard law school or duke or something along those lines

-wikipedia is stupid, i go there when i know something, but cant remember it, but i'd know it if i heard it

-it's not propaganda, it's advertising, just like the burger king ad at the ballpark or football stadium....and hey, it goes to a good cause, who doesnt wanna see a 1974 buick apollo get it's engine rebuilt to produce 1 million horsepower

i think i hit everything there

thank you,you just saved me a lot of typing.

not in agreement here at all. i dont have u joints that cost 8 dollars for one, and i have certainly destroyed more then one axleshaft in a 20 minute period on several occasions when i regularly wheeled....emptied every junkyard within 40 miles on several occasions of front axle shafts as well.

if you shit can your spare at 10 o clock sat evening, you just hike out/ride out and wait till monday to go get your rig?:icon_confused:

the craftsman warranty the way i understand is not applicable to non tool intention. there is not a 17 mm fastener anywhere to be found in this scenario... regardless, only a asshat would warranty that wrench, which likely will survive anyway.

and that wrench will fawk up that shaft for sure before the wrench is destroyed, so i would only do it that way if the shaft was already fawked up --usually the shafts i have destroyed, are fubar to the point that wrench wouldnt help if indeed the outer was unretainable....

in this case it was really primarily for lube retention/protection which would have been rope or bungee from me.

if i needed it to 3 wheel to get out of the trail, i have a ujoint specific drift that would have been in there which would save the ears had the been worth the effort like those appear to be new.. of course if a guy has no lockouts things are potentially uglier as that is hard on the spiders.

I would never spend $100k on an auto program, ever, unless it came with a money-back guarantee or something.

I took a good auto program. I got it at a good price, and I work for a shop that pays us pretty well. I'm in a flat-rate shop, and I've been working on the same truck since Tuesday morning. Still getting paid for it. I'd be hard pressed to pay my loans and make my bills each month without my wife's income.

interesting....i just watched two hours of powerblock.

not one mention of wyotech.not even one of their ads.

one guy did say he likes the ppg 2021 clearcoat, though.i use this clear(as well as the dupont 4700)but didn't feel that i was being influenced to buy it.that influence came 15 years ago from the body supply store i went to.

wow, i haven't watched powerblock in 6 months (combination of lack of interest, and working weekends. i'm at work now) that seriously suprises me.

it used to be that wyotech was in every commercial break, without fail :icon_confused:

maybe wyotech dropped them? i do know that wyotech has recently come under new ownership.......for the worse

ididn't feel that i was being influenced to buy it

its just like i was saying about wikipedia (the b.s. is mixed with fact very seamlessly) , except unlike wikipedia on all tv shows there is a carefully written script, spoken by individuals chosen by their abilities to speak in front of a camera, shot in multiple takes, and then edited by professionals. so if you didn't "feel like you were being influenced".......that means they did their jobs, and all of that effort and expense wasn't wasted

surprised me too.like you said,it seemed to be rammed down your throat all the time.

and yes,tv shows are carefully written to sell stuff.that's the only reason they exist,as are magazines and newspapers, and any other media that has advertising to pay the bills.

just a matter of being aware enough of what you need to make your own decisions.

yes, exactly, i just prefer entertainment that i don't have to have my bullsh-t filter turned up to "high" to sort the bs from truth, just to watch it.

and in the cases of people like some of my friends, thier b.s. filters weren't strong enough to catch it all and they wasted 2 years of their lives and .1million dollars

If you guys ever visit Pirate4x4, Ian from extreme4x4 is on those forums A LOT. He will tell you, and this is the truth, that he writes the script for that show, and puts a lot of hard work and effort to make it what it is. Sure there may be some advertising, thats how this society works. Look at TV...why do you think there are commercials. Look at the top and bottom of your open screen of TRS...advertising makes the world go 'round.

About the trail fix, carrying around a spare u joint for a rear driveshaft, sure. But to carry a u joint for a front axle shaft in case you break it mid-wheeling is a retarded idea. If your balls deep in the woods somewhere, full of mud or if night fall is coming, the last thing you want to be doing is tearing apart a spindle assembly.

I carry full set of spare front axle shafts in my truck, but thats for AFTER I make it out of the woods and back to base camp.

While Im ranting, this is another reason why I installed a front locker. If I blow out one of my axle shafts, the other one is going to keep turning regardless. No Craftsman wrench required :D

exactly he might be the one with the d-ck up his a-s while trying to stay true to his roots, all while being the one that puts all of the work into seamlessly camouflaging the b.s. he will never admit in open forum the truth...it would defeat all that he has worked for. anything he says anywhere must be taken with a very large grain of salt.

oh did i mention that my idiot friend's "chassis fabrication" professor was jesse? (ian's former co-host) no lie. so i have heard a lot of her candid in-person remarks (told to me secon-hand)

i am basing my claims on a lot of different things, but they all point to the same thing
