Hello,I'am putting a new intake manifold gasket on my ford 302. I was told to spary the gasket with 3M adhesive to hold it in place and put a bead of black RTV around the water ports on the gasket. I was also told to put black RTV on the gasket intake side around the water ports.

What is the best way? I was think sparying 3m on the gasket and puting black RTV around water ports.

any thoughts thanks

i dont like gasket adheisive...it just makes removing the gaskets that much harder later on.

this has never failed me ?

thats a 4 piece gasket set you need to put a small dab of rtv where the gaskets on the heads meet the gaskets on the front and back of block. to hold the gasket in place i took a four bolts the same as the intake but 1.5 longer cut the heads off and rounded the ends thread those in to the block a couple turns slip you gaskets over these than place you intake . thread in the rest of the proper intake bolts finger tight , remove placement studs .replace stock bolts . done deal. follow tightening sequence and torque specs

I dislike the cork end gaskets. Eliminate the cork altogether with a 1/4"-3/8" thick bead of high temp RTV.

Ditto.:icon_thumby:
Mine are about 4" overall length. But, instead of rounding the ends, I put a slight bevel on the edges and slotted them with a hacksaw blade. If they get bound, I can use a slotted screwdriver to remove them. Also, permits me to install the manifold straight down onto the beads of RTV without it sliding backwards and forwards.

No requirement for sealant anywhere else - if you trust your gaskets.

^seems we all read the same book LOL. As said above, dobs at the edges of the valley gaskets and around the water ports. Just make sure you torque it down properly. You can follow every rule in the book and have a leak if you don't torque it down properly.
