Cooper's Roadmaster Roughneck Tires for 15" rims

At over 60k miles
Dryrotted from sitting in mud for nearly a total of 6 years in all.
(they still fill right up and work great though).

The tread (worst tire):

Too bad they stopped making them, but if your lucky, you can find them for sale at a tire shop.

Dryrotted tires = FAIL it's ok for moving it around the yard or trails but i wouldn't trust them on the road..

They hold air fine, dad says their dryrotted, and I have no proof otherwise, but the only reason the one doesnt hold air is because the rim is bent along the edge. The bead on all 4 tires are shot, so once they come off, bye bye, but yeah, they lasted a long time, if it was better kept of a truck, the tires would still be good.

i have started to check build date on tires when im services cars at work anything over 7 years we try and get them replaced

It depends on how they are used and stored.

They will last longer if stored out of the sun (which is what dryrots them)

I know some farmers try to buy tires 5 years ahead of time and stick them in the shed so they are ready when they need them. Soft supple new tires don't have a chance against modern BT cornstalks. It really sucks to have a brand new tire full of boots... those cornstalks won't hardly touch an aged tire.

I'm glad I live in AK... We get hundreds of thousands of new tires each year and they all get sold, infact I have yet to run across something older then 4 years in the store I work at and when I buy tires I checked them all before I put them on.

I'm talking tires intended for street use, as was the OP. As far as farming is concerned, I would imagine those tires are so thick they have a longer life.

If I remember, that tire isn't even that badly dry rotted. Its nothing compared to your other 3, or those coursers on the 88.


PA safety laws say that if it's a private passenger vehicle (not a big rig or taxi) that the tire can be as old as you want provided 1) there is no spot that two consecutive treads are less than 2/32" in depth, and 2) cords and secondary rubber are not visible from excessive tire wear, sidewall damage, or dry rot. Legally speaking, that thing still passes.

Well in all honesty most tire shops down south don't sell a few million dollars worth of tires every year... Up here its common for people to get new summer tires or winter tires every year or every few years. I was down last summer and it was hard to find a place that stocked more then a few hundred tires in the store... The place I'm working has about 5,000 right now.
