I've been shopping for new laptop. Really thinking a Thinkpad T480. That a 2018 model. My current is from 2009 and it was cheapo then. Acer Aspire 5534.

I think that would be a great choice. Bear in mind that the lowest spec model only has a TFT 1366x768 screen so you might want to opt for one of the IPS screen models which are all 1080 and higher. Also you have CPU and GPU options: if you can score one for not much more money, the i7 model would be a nice upgrade, although the i5 is fine, and there's also an Nvidia GPU option, which I would only classify as a "nice to have". The Intel integrated graphics are fine, even for some light duty gaming on old titles (Warcraft, Civilization etc)

Oh, either have your RAM upgrade already in hand or make sure you get one with enough RAM in it (probably 16 gigs) as RAM prices have gone through the roof as you may already know.

Yep. Roughly tripled. Along with SSDs and some other chips. I could rant about that for a good half hour.
