Well, I'm picking up this 95 Dakota Sport tomorrow, it's got a 5.2 V8 and a 5 speed, manual t-case. Tranny makes a bit of noise, engine has 70K on it. The interior isn't great but for $1000 I don't think I could go wrong. Runs great and it's pretty strong. If feels a lot bigger than a ranger, I wanted a true midsize pickup and a V8/5 speed, so I think it will suit me well and I've always beed a closet Mopar guy.

and its a np231 so anything from the jeep 231 works on it, and the 5.2 is damn good motor, to bad there is little aftermarket for it(had an 88 with 3.9 for a while

Ranger Station Commandmaent I

:nono: Thou shall not have any other kind of truck before me

Ranger Station Commandmaent II

:nono: Thou shall not defile thy hallowed halls of thine Ranger forums with a Mopar

Just kidding!! I love trucks of ALL kinds.Even if it is a Dodge or a Chevy ;brownbag;

i had a 97. nice trucks... just dont expect it too fair too well in a front end collision! hahah

actually, i was told the only thing that totalled it was my airbags...other than that it held up very nicely.

I must say... dakotas are the only dodges post 80's that I would spring for. Nice find imo.

No way, the gen 2's look a lot better...

I had a 1991 Dakota extended cab with the 5.2 2WD auto combination, I bought it with 270 000km on it and sold it 6 months later with 292 000km on it. I did an oil change on it the day I bought it, and I did an oil change for the guy who bought it the day I handed him the keys, she wasn't even down a half liter of oil, a quarter liter at most. It still ran like a champ, aside from the slipping overdrive, but pushing the O/D off button solved that. The thing was a tank and could hold its own with many 1500 series trucks. At times I miss that truck, and she was pounded hard, I was rear ended many times and the worse of it, a civic wrapped itself around my trailer hitch and got stuck, and it left an even crease across the length of my bumper. The thing was a tank, and it managed to move my tool box without problems (witch in itself is a feat, considering its 5 feet tall, 2 feet deep, and 4 feet wide, and weighs about 1500lb) My father has a 1997 and loves it, has had no problems with it.

You getting rid of the sploder?
Not for a while at least, I'l play it by ear and see what happens. The sploder interior is just so damn nice!

To be technical they're both 1st gens, I do prefer the newer grill, especially painted to match.

I'm with ya on the newer style grill. I think the first grill is butt ugly... the small rectangle head lights remind me too much of an early Jeep Cherokee, which is also very ugly.

If I were to get a truck other than a Ranger, it would have to be a Dakota in the body style/ grill you got (92-96?).

Do you need a midsize to pull your B2 or something? Or is it just for the ability to haul more in the bed/ on a trailer?

No flaming from me, I plan on getting a GMC 2500 Duramax hopefully by the end of this year.

if ya ask me too i think the 1st gen. dakotas are freakin sweet. exspecialy when they got the 5.2(318) in em.
