I am finishing my Duraspark conversion on the 2.8 in my '84 B2. The previous owner cut a lot of wiring so that he could start it with a push button...wired into the starter solenoid. My problem now is that when it's running, my coil gets really hot and the truck will shut off and not start again until it cools down. My Duraspark module also gets pretty hot.

I would also like to use a push button starter as well so I don't have to spend any more time fixing this truck's mess. From what I have been reading, I do not have a ballast resistor anymore and I need one so the coil doesn't get constant 12v when it's running. Is there any way around this that will work? Can I just put a resistor in the positive power wire for the coil...or would that be bad since the coil would never get 12v?
