Today the "Mighty 90" is back on the road. It was a frustrating journey to say the least. Since my good ex-friend Bobby hooked up his battery tester/charger and declared the battey OK, I started trying to determine the cause of my problem. The engine wouldn't turn over and the headlights/instruments/advisory lights worked intermittantly. Wiggling/turning the ignition on and off produced varying results. After checking a few things (I am a retired electrical engineer you know), I concluded it was a faulty ignition switch. After some bad information in the repair manual at the library you kind folks advised the real location of the switch. Needless to say, that did not fix the problem. I hooked the battery up and turned on the headlights. The battery read 8 volts. A trip to Wal Mart for a new battery and the problem was fixed. So what did I relearn?
1) Don't trust your well meaning friends--check it your self
2) Always trust your wife. When I told her about the problem, she said it was "probably a bad battery" but she's not a retired electrical engineer
