Ignition pickup faulty

I replaced the ignition pickup twice and it keeps burning out or not giving spark to engine. 88Bii. The engine will turn over and start, maybe 30 seconds running then just stops loses spark. Is there a volt reading i can do on the ignition pickup? What's making it short out?

How can i test the pick up in the distributor?
