If you were going to build a 'rod....

An FE/FT? mabey...

An M? Never.

any series-385 would be good...

Anyone want a 460?

A 460 is in line with what I'd like to do, that's what my buddy has in his '48 Ford and she rips, I can't imagine if it had a good engine.

I can get a good deal on a 400M but I think I'm going too pass on that, I haven't found a whole lot that you can do to them other than an intake manifold and aluminum heads, which are 1G each.

I wish we had good junkyards around here, hard to come by engines and trannies.

I'm going to look at a 454 tomorrow, says I can hear it run. I'm thinking if I pick that up and slowly build it in my garage, I'll have a nice engine when I get around to trying to buy the truck I'm looking at. If that falls through, I'm sure I can find something that could use a BBC.

30's Model A pick up with an uncorked 32 valve DOHC 4.6L/5spd (or 6spd)..... or maybe a Saleen S/C 5.4L...... with 4whl ABS disc brakes.

I would definitely go new school and there are enough 4.6L powered cars in the junk yard to find one at a decent price.

If I was to go old school it would have to be a boss 429 or 429 thunder jet or a 428 cobra jet.... possibly fuel injected........ if I was building a rod for saturday night cruising I would go mid - late 40's convertible, big block like a chevy 502, 4L80E (with a stand alone shift controler) and carbed so I could have flame throwers....

although I like the idea of a diesel powered rat rod ..... there was a guy that put a 6.5t into a camaro ...........

New stuff is cool. It doesn't have the "look" though. You know, you see a bitchin car, nice paint, nice interior, but you pop the hood and it's a mess of sensors, wiring, and big plastic pieces.:bad: To me new stuff is only cool if you never see it.

remember who you are talking too. I believe function over form any day. plus you can clean up and hide the wiring and that mess of plastic pieces have chrome alternatives.

I seen a 50 something Ford F-1 farm truck running a Triton V10 and it loooked nice, not messy at all, all the wires were run through steel braided hoses and all the parts that could be polished were polished.

haha. I know :)

There is a guy that we wheel with occasionally who has a Triton V10 in an Early Bronco...it is also very cool :shok:

I would pick the best drive train to fit the vehicle that will give you the most driveability, and that fulfills whatever purpose the vehicle might have.

I don't offroad, don't tow, and live in the middle of the city. 5.0L was the route I decided would be best for what I wanted in the end. As far as a unique factor, it must not be a bad thing if there are so many people doing it. IMO The uniqueness comes in on how it was done and the ideas that you incorperate into the swap.

I'm pretty sure I'm buying the 454, went out and checked it out, hadn't been started in 3 years. Little bit of gas in the carb, put a fuel line in a gas can, and she fired right up and purred like a kitten.

Wabbah!

The cummins would be cool.
It is cheaper to build a 460 Ford than a 454 chebby, that has been proven.
Chevy motors have been put in everything, why do it again?

My buddy already has a 460, also not that many BBC's running around up here. Hard to come by a good engine around me.

If it was me, and I couldn't get the original engine to go, I would go shopping for a 345... those trucks are too rare to hack up into a drag truck IMO.

Nothing wrong with a BBC though, it is hard to argue with them for price when they have 10x more stuff at swap meets than any other brand, or engine family for that matter aside from the SBC.
