Hey John1949 -- Good Year!

We're prolly gonna need a little more info...
Any other issues that led up to this one?
Does it run if you stay on pedal?

Welcome to TRS.

WELCOME to the new guy!

Details help us "see" your situation.
How long have you owned this vehicle?
Mileage (aka odometer reading)
General assessment of overall condition of vehicle.
Some mention of specific recent maintenance (plugs/wires new?....last fuel filter, etc.)

Welcome to TRS.
the engine has been rebuilt everything new have to keep around 1500 to keep running

I suspect an rich condition.
What is your fuel pressure?
Rebuilt carb? Which one?

dont know fuel pressure

electric fuel pump standard for carberator

Fuel pressure is supposed to be 4 to 7 psi. Go buy a cheap fuel pressure gauge. If your sure the pump is set to that range then perhaps the carb needs set properly.
Maybe float level?

Look for large air leaks on the intake side.
A split in a PCV line can be hard to spot.
A broken plastic vacuum tree could be your problem.

Not that I would ever endorse removing emissions equipment, but I had an idle surge problem and had to rev to over 1000 to keep it alive.
The PCV was practically falling out so I plugged it with my thumb and had my wife start the truck.

No issues. Plugged the hole and didn't look back.

Positive Crank Ventilation valve. It runs from the drivers side valve cover to the backside of the air filter housing.

The valve might be working but the rubber grommet that seals it into the intake can rot and leak air even if the valve is pulled in.

There’s a bunch of conflicting info on which is the proper replacement. I used Dorman 42066 when i last did mine and it worked perfect
