I have a 91 2.3L 2WD ranger, with a Mazda M5OD-R1 transmission. I changed the clutch on it once and that was last year. This year I was getting it out of storage and was driving it around and when ever I am near or in second gear is makes a loud rubbing sound. (That’s the best why I can describe it) I check the fluid regally and I am going to fix the little plugs that leak today. So is my transmission dieing on me? Thanks!

in or near second? does this mean in the neutral position between first and second or only when engaging the syncros for second?

also does it feel like it shifts into gear any differently than before or any differently from the other gears?

it will make the nose when I am in the neutral position between first and second and when I am in first or second, but second is the loudest. but no it shifts into all gears fine. the only weird thing is that one day I was driving around and I had the clutch fully depressed and when I tried to go in to 3rd it grinded but it went in to 3rd when i tried again, so far that is the only time that has happened

that third gear grinding only once makes it sound like you got throungh the syncros but didnt actually complete the shift immediately as a result the front shaft had time to slow down. then when you tried to complete the shift you heard the grinding because the shafts were at different speeds.

as far as the noise goes, it shouldnt be making that noise. whether or not it will die on you is anyones guess. how many miles are on the tranny?

well my truck as of right now has 117,000 miles on it, it is the original transmission as far as i know. i changed the fluid in it when i did the clutch.
