I just bought a 1999 ranger 4x4 extended cab off my dad for 1200 only 90k miles....i know good deal:headbang: But anywho i am wanting to build a off road rig that i can still drive to my classes everyday and im wanting some ideas on what to do to it im open to anything thanks for the help!!!!:icon_bounceblue:

lift kits are unfortunately expensive for that year. Actually a lot of parts for those trucks are somewhat expensive compared to older ones.

You can crank your torsion bars (see tech pages) and put a chevy drop shackle on the rear to gain up to two inches and get an alignment when you're done.

You can install a 2 or 3" body lift with or without the suspension lift.

Lockers are a big help off road.

Tire selection is also very important, pick something aggressive (the more aggressive, the better off road, but the more aggressive the noiser and faster wearing on the street).

My solution was to pick up a BII that needed work for cheap (or an older Explorer) and build a toy to off-road with that. Then I didn't sacrifice fuel economy on my Ranger and I knew that if I took the BII out to play and had to tow it home, I still had my Ranger to get me to work the next day.

i'd start with the body lift. it will be the least expensive by far and once it is done, it will make other mods easier (suspension lift, engine/tranny mods, etc.) with the additional clearance and room to work.
next would be a locker and tires. double check the numbers in the drivers door decal to see exactly what you have for gears and possibly limited slip.
be sure to check the tech library here for all sorts of things you will be able to do and then prioritize your choices for your needs.
good luck to you and have fun with your ranger!!

Thanks for the help! im probably just going to drop in the body lift add tires and a locker and leave it at that for a little while!! :icon_cheers:
