i need a little help

i want to clean my engine and all the stuff under the hood, whats the safest and best way to do it?

Gunk engine degreaser, available at autozone or walmart. I used regular spray Purple Power de-greaser on the bottom of my hood before paint. Worked very well. Some of my customers have had really really bad things happen when power washing their engine so for the love of god take my advice and don't do that. I'd much rather remove de-greaser by hand w/ rags than with water.

can i lightly spray with a hose, then scrub with a soft brush everything?

simple green works great use a garden hose with out anything on the end and spray the engine compartment but dont directly spray the alternator. spray the motor down then start it and let it warm up then shut off and spray down with simple green let sit for about 10 min then if you want scrub with a brush. then rinse off the engine compartment. and repeat if needed.
