I dun it! 58mm throttle body on 2nd Gen. Ranger

I found a 58mm throttle body at the local wrecking yard and got it for a very small fee. Anywho, I threw it on the truck along with the TPS that was on it. Needless to say, I ended up putting my TPS back on.

As far as performance differences, it feels a little more luggy at full throttle till it winds up, snappier at light throttle low RPM times (taking off from stop signs and such), and throttle response is a night and day difference for the better.

I haven't had it on long enough to give any kind of mileage claims, but will add them later after I figure it out.

Lots of write-ups have been done on this before, but I figured I'd give my own.

Ok, if you carefully pay attention to the difference
you'll see that while the throttle is more abrubt in the first half of it's
travel that the last 25% does almost nothing.

THE advantage to the "big" throttle body is that you can open it
to 3/4 and essentially get full throttle while keeping the management
system in "Closed loop" operation.

At Wide open throttle the management system goes into open loop
and for the uninitiated that basically boils down to running "pig rich"

That's pretty much the conclusion I've come to. It's almost the same as it was before at WOT. it's just the part throttle times I notice a difference.

Not unless you're driving a chainsaw.

No, it will not affect peak power AT ALL.

The only time I really take mine past half throttle is when it is on its way to the floor anyway. Having more power at partial throttle and about the same on top makes for a more usefull powerband IMO.

Because unlike a chainsaw, my trucks spend very little time at WOT anyway, but a lot of time between idle and half throttle.

that isen't really the case here.it just makes the throttle application more jerky,especially in 4 low where its harder to modulate throttle imput.

that said i liked the big TB when i had headers and all the other bolt on BS on my 2.9.it felt just right when the revs were over 3,000 with your foot on the floor
 
If you needed more air flow through your throttle body, all you have to do is step on the gas more. The plate will open up, and allow more air to pass through. No need to spend money on a bigger one. Only if you're at WOT and you still need more flow, THEN an aftermarket one would benefit you. But the stock one is all a 2.9l needs.
 
my truck came from the factory with the "big" throttle body, I removed it, swapped to the smaller one and I was much happier with the increased ease of throttle modulation. I think i sold the big one to someone on here for something like 5 bucks plus shipping.
