I cant decide which engine to use

now besides the slant, how durable are the other I6's? if i was gona swap in a 4.3, might as well swap a SBC. i cant help it, im inlove with inline motors. A better cam, 9.1:1 compression and good intake/exhaust manifolds and a decent oil pump will be standard equipment on any motor i decide on thats been victimized by the EPA...

they will all hold up about the same... most have 7 main bearings, and hold well over 300k miles

the supra powertrains are killer...

Toyota Cressida's have 5MGE, 5M's and 7MGE's also. lower power Supra engines.

but....disrespecting the sbc is pitiful. dont get me wrong i dont prefer it over a 351 by any measure...but it is what it is man...

Just saying I've never had one hold up as well as anything else I've had, and SBC just says I took the pussy way out, and they aren't as great as everybody makes them out to be. They are only popular because they are so plentiful, I have a 350 in my c30 but thats because they came with one, and i've swapped motors several times in it and I''m not a big fan of them (but when i can get a truck for $200 and scrap it out for $300 It's cheaper than a 454.

IMO they have earned the reputation. Fords are underrated IMO but partially that is because Ford could never make up their mind on stuff and kept changing it.

Dad's '80 K20 still has the same 4bbl 350 it had when he got it in the late 80's. The floodrajet needs chucked as far as possible but once started it runs like a dream for the rest of the day. It is a retired railroad truck with a service body.

I do agree with you about swaps though. I would rather see about anything than a SBC in a hotrod, anymore I walk right past the ones with a SBC. There was a guy with a period I6 in his early '50's car last year at my clubs car show that was all decked out with period aftermarket stuff, multiple carbs cast iron headers... way more interesting and far less cookie cutter.

Lol a buddy of mine posted a video on my face book about a guy with living room full of chevy v8s, tucked away in the corner was a 250 I6. Guess which one got my attention lol. But he did have a couple of nice big blocks too.

I love the old I6 motors, even more so if they have period correct speed parts.
