I am new and need help!!

Well, it will increase your available power by making it easier to turn the tires and running at a higher rpm.

Other options are underdrive pulley, roller rocker conversion, etc.... if you really wanted to, a manual will free up some power as well. Oh and the usual bore and stroke deal. Some cool stuff here too http://www.moranav6racing.com/

Oh and if you ever like to splash in puddles when wheelin a cold air intake needs to be sheilded/never installed so it doesn't suck up extra water.

Hey thanks man, so if im going in water or wet places then dont have my cold a intake installed?

no, he is saying that is you go through puddles you either need to have it well shielded so it won't suck up water, or just don't put the stupid thing on in the first place. they don't help much anyway. If you don't get them installed and shielded right then you just suck up hot engine air anyway. The factory intake system IS a cold air system. it sucks air in from the grill area where its as cold as its gonna get.

^Yup

One of my buddies learned that lesson the hard way in his old chevy... sucked water up and drove it home... didn't quite make it. Still haven't put a new motor in it yet. It's been about two years now.

Not to mention you are putting a massive free of drag intake system capable of supplying air to even moderately modded v8's effectively your engine just doesn't need it, it gets all the air it needs besides whats the point of a 3" intake if your exhaust is only 2" or 2.5"?

If your really concerned about power just hold everything and do the 4.0l or 5.0L swap first. no sense in pouring money into an engine that your jsut gonna throw away soon.

Regearing doesn't give you more power it just lets the engine spin the tires at its comfortable RPM band. In your case about 3000 -3500 RPM.

I think it would be a good idea to just write down exactly what you want your truck to be used for and stuff. Such as I want it for mild trails and mudding on occation, I want to do a lift bigger tires and an engine swap... ect ect. That way you can skip spending money your just going to be basically throwing away. Like getting a lift for your torsen 4x4 when you want to eventually want to do a solid axle swap or putting a bunch of performance parts on your 3.0L when you want to do a v8 swap eventually. If you save the money and then get exactly what you want the first time you'll be alot better off. Sure you can get it for temporary use but you also jsut wasted money to do that... was it worth it? maybe, maybe not.

I don't know, Just wanna get a bearing on where you see your truck in 5 years.:dunno:
