I repair computers as a sideline. Many HPs, Compaq and Gateway Laptops come into my shop. Many HP, Compaq and Gateway desktops as well. Those three brands are the majority of my repair work. I get a few Dell laptops and desktops in, but a far smaller percentage of the total than each of the other brands. Almost never have servers of any brand in shop
Bought a Dell Inspiron 8100 in the fall of 2001. Never had a problem, still running. Bought a Compaq (HP) a year ago. It is dead. Won't even boot. Just received 2 new Dell Vostro 1710's. Saved $450 each. We'll see how they work out.
You will see failure in any brand. If you see a trend, then you worry.
