To replace the turn signal relay on my 2011, I was able to reach above the OBD port and feel where the relay is (I think). There really isn't enough room to work.

I want to remove the plastic dash panel under the steering wheel and the metal panel behind it to be able to see and reach. My question is, how do I disconnect the hood latch lever from that plastic panel? Removing the two 7 mm-hex screws on the bottom of the panel and popping loose the fasteners isn't enough to free the panel. It's still fastened in some way I cannot see around the latch lever. I don't want to break anything, obviously.

Thanks!

The plastic panel is also held on with snap fasteners, you have to use a plastic trim tool to gently pop it loose. Ill take a pic of what you need to do on my lunch break.

I was able to pop the top part loose, no problem. The issue is around the hood latch lever at the bottom of the panel.

Ill take a look in a bit, I've had that thing off a million times. I know there is some hidden fasteners on the bottom i just can't remember without looking at it lol.

Ok two 7mm on the hood latch, that should drop. Then two 7mm on each bottom corner of the panel then that will pull out, then just pop the top clips. 4 screws and two clips.

Second to last pic you can see all 4 screw holes on the bottom and the two clips for the top.

Taking the steel panel off is self explanatory Im not pulling that off lol.

Thanks! Makes it clear. I refuse to stand on my head to try to see... Feeling around wasn't telling me much.

Had a 1998 Escort wagon years back and unscrewing just one nut unfastened the hood lever from the same trim panel. That was easy.
