How old to register as classic?

I guess I'm lucky. Columbus does not require any type of emissions testing.

Same here. No inspections of any kind. Go 10 miles down the road though, and you have to get an emissions test. I guess I should be happy about that... I have never thought about it.

Here I think it is 25, I think..

I'm in IL as well and i never heard of classic plates. I'm kinda interested in that now. But my dad, brother, and uncle all have antique plates on 2 '66 fairlanes and a '66 mustang. I'm the only one who drives my uncles mustang and I have never heard you only get certain mileage in a year. i did here you're only "supposed" to drive your car to shows or the gas station. I changed the oil a few weeks ago and since april (last oil change) i drove the car 1,000 miles, weekends only (i should say mostly) I know here getting it for trucks is harder to do because they don't want you to use it as a truck (haul stuff) because it adds to much risk of damage and it has to look at least half way descent. I also read on IL's site you have to have at least as many "normal" plated vehicles as antique ones. and the plates/stickers are bought/renued every 5 years. I should have my '67 fastback antique plated in maybe a year when i'm done giving it, it's cancer treatments.

My truck is going to be 20 next year and itd be nice to not have to worry about emissions. thanks

That's not fair.

Only two counties (of sixteen) in Nevada require smog checks. In Washoe, where I live, if the vehicle is 1968 or newer, it requires a smog check. That's darned near 40 years. My first vehicle was a 1967 F-100, which did not require smog.

They had smog equipment in '68?

I think it is 25 here, and in Nebraska you can run period plates on your car too (1957 Nebraska plates on your '57 Chevy if you like) There is a milage limit, but I don't know what it is.

I think the big reason for it being harder get for trucks is people would like to do it for their beater they just drive the dump every 6 months.

That was the first year nationally for emission controls, which in '68 amounted to a PCV valve and maybe an air pump, depending. California started around '65 or '66 I think.
Both my vehicles are registered to my company. Emission testing is required in my county but after I opened an office in the next county I transferred the registrations up there where no testing is required. It isn't a matter of not passing ('04 Focus, '05 Sport Trac), just that I don't want to pay for it if I don't have to. As we know, air stops at the state and county borders.:icon_twisted:
If you want to register it as a classic or antique to avoid emissions tests, go ahead, but again depending on the state you may be limited to how many miles you can drive it annually.
Bud of mine, Ranger driver, has a fleet of classic Fords, they all have current plates, inspections, and emissions because he and his mom drive them all the time except for a few months in the winter. (64 1/2 Mustang ragtop, 65 Mustang, 65 Lincoln 4-door ragtop, 76 Lincoln, 59 T-Bird, 77 LTD wagon)

My '67 F-100 had an air pump, which ran off it's own belt.

It was broken or something though. When I let off the gas, there would be too much air in the exhaust, and it would "bang" like a backfire. It was annoying, but cool........when it did that, FLAMES would shoot out the exhaust tips about 6 feet!! It had dual exhaust with the tips turning out the sides just before the rear tires.:3gears:
