how much to fix bent driveshaft?

SO if igured out what was wrong with my truck, the driveshaft is bent about an 1/8 inch. Any ideas on how much it would be to fix it? or should I just go to the junk yard and get one? Also how much are front wheel bearings?

Wheel bearings usually go for about $12 a pop. As for your drive shaft, it's scrap now. The boxes they come in, and the new shafts both have a tag that says "scrap if dropped" once it's dinged, dented, or bent it's junk.

oh alright. What year shafts will bolt up? its an ext cab

You should be good for 90-97 if you want a 2-piece, long as it's an X-cab. But since you already need to replace the shaft, great time for a 1-piece swap, I'd go 98-99 because those are a bit smaller around. Less trimming to do.

i had my stock driveshaft re- built locally with a new tube and new spicer u-joints for $100, it was bent badly when i bought the truck. they are fixable, check local axle/ drivetrain shops.

I've always been told they aren't, but yeah, if you replace the tube and get a total rebuild. By that point it's basically a new shaft though.

If the shaft is dented or kinked, find new or new to you. If it is just arched, a good shop can straighten and balance it for about $75 - $100 in my area.

My brother had a shaft with a 3 inch deflection in it. Shop said "NO" to fixing it (didn't want liability). I've had one straightened by the same shop with no problem.

yeah they replaced the entire tube on it. it was like a brand new shaft when it came back. its been on the truck for 8 years now with no issues.

Drivelines are definitely fixable - Inland Truck Parts (my local shop) can straighten them if they're not really bent. They can just replace the tube too. You can expect to spend around $100 having it straightened or the tube replaced versus around $250 to have a new one built.

If you have the skill just cut the tube at each end and reweld it and then get the shop to balance it..

I think i am just going to go with the one piece swap if i can find one for cheap. if not i will have the old one rebuilt. thanks for all the input

At which you've hit what seems to be about the average cost of the 1-piece swap.

I'd probably do that now that I have a 1-piece in, but I wouldn't spend the money on a 2-piece shaft.
