How much have you towed with 2.3 and 5 speed

tractor trailers follow a different set of rules. they dont allow the average joe to obtain a permit to exceed the manufaturers GCWR because the average joe is an idiot and he'll end up killing someone :icon_thumby:

I can get permits to pull a 24000 pound over dimension boat behind a dually with a chasis capacity of 18,000 pounds. thats 6000 pounds over and we do it twice a month, found out its cheaper to use our service truck to pull the boat instead of a tractor.

it weighs 24,000 pounds ..... being towed behind a 2wd 3/4 ton chevy with a 6.5 turbo diesel.... with a manufacturer GCWR of 18,000. it weighs 31,000 with the boat and trailer and pick up..... the truck has been seriously upgraded but the point is when I get the permits they don't even ask for the GCWR.

thats my point...your permit is for an overSIZED boat, right? not for being over GCWR. what im saying is that setup might not be legal...

I have to cross 2 scales with it, I get inspected EVERY time I pull it (because one or the other is always open, I also pull it through 4 state, MI, IN, IL, and WI) and GCWR has never come up, all they look for is the brake controller and make sure all 3 axles on the trailer have brakes .... it would not be legal with out brakes. they also check the door tag when they get the vin so they know what it is rate for. they are more concerned with the GVWR on the trailer.

not sure what to tell you then :dunno:

the manufacturer doesnt give the vehicle a GCWR for no reason. and i know ford reccomends trailer brakes at a weight much lower than the GCWR, so it isnt just for braking (i wouldnt tow 5,000lbs behind a 3,300lb truck without trailer brakes anyway, thats crazy stupid). IIRC, i think its all in my owners manual...ill have to remember to check it later.
