How much fluid?

I'm going to be replacing the fluid and filter in my `03 5R55E transmission. The manual says it hold 10.3 quarts but I know I won't get that much out. How much should I get

I'd start with half. Usually the way it works with coolant too.

About 4 quarts. The rest is mostly in the torque converter. The only way to change out ALL the fluid at once is to do a fluid exchange. (commonly referred to as a flush, even though you don't actually FLUSH the trans)
