hey guys got a 94 ranger 4.0 and i think my maf might be bad, cause when the truck is running and i unplugg it it runns no different, plus some dipshit told me to clean with brake clean, i get bad gas milage and it runs rough, also when i put my clutch in i broke the driver bank o2 senor hook up and now i have it hard wired for now and when the truck is cold it chuggs real bad til it gets warms up and the ceck engine light comes on about 5 -10 min into driving?

Normally you can do a resistance test and it will tell you if the sensor is bad.

If you really want to be sure it's bad, clean it with brake clean and then you know it's bad because that stuff will destroy the sensor wires.

Go buy a new one and then shove the old one down the throat of the guy who told you to use brake cleaner on it.

^This, oh and brake fluid makes a great wax.

I'm pretty sure the can for brake cleaner actually says in the directions "NOT FOR USE ON ELECTRICAL SENSORS"

Thats shitty of that guy. I think mine has a warning sticker on it about cleaning it. I know for sure the TB does.

Reminds me of that 911 call....."are you sure he is dead?" (gun shot) "yea he's dead"

You specifically need this stuff to clean a MAF properly.

I am currently using the MAF from a H.O. 5.0 Mustang on my 4.0 with no adverse effects.

maf went bad and I had this on the work bench and gave it a try.
Just to point out the Maf does not have to come from a ranger .

When you buy your replacement from the parts store, they will sell you the entire housing which you have no use for, 2 screws and you can change it in seconds.
I have checked the Maf with a dvom and had it check out good and still had a bad sensor.

I thought my MAF was bad, but it turned out that the readings from the sensor were accurate and it adjusted the gas mixture/ratio to the engine which messed stuff up. Turns out I had a fouled spark plug...

I have used electrical contact cleaner and then shot it with compressed air. Don't use brake cleaner or touch it with anything.
