How do I pass emissions in Illinois with a 302 swap in my 04 4.0 Ranger ?

See if there's a mileage limit on your annual emissions tests. In PA if you put on less than I think 4000 miles a year then you get an exempt sticker. My mom's car is exempt every year. Also since your truck is 17 years old you may be able to register it as a classic and not need emissions tests.

I was curious about it so I took a look. I live in one of the counties listed and have had several vehicles registered for most of the last 10 years and never had to test any of them. Just further proof Illinois is a mess.

I seem to remember someone telling me it was only in Cook County... I have no idea.

Welcome to TRS :)

Yes, I think your problem is the 2004 Ranger, in more ways than you may think, 2004 was first year of digital dash which won't work without its matched engine computer
2004-2011 Rangers are just not good swap candidates, can be done, as anything can be done, just a matter of how much you want to spend on it

Check with local laws to see what older Rangers might qualify and start there
You often need proof of "new" engine's year, do you have that?
Yeah I understand that 04 and newer are extremely difficult to v8 swap compared to the older models but since the specific truck has strong sentimental value to me, that is why I wanted to use the efi sniper to kinda not deal with all that computer stuff with the dash and just use aftermarket gauges for what I need like tach, speedo, oil, etc. To answer your question, no I do not. I have not bought anything because I wasn't even sure if I could drop it in and still have the truck road legal.

Thank you for the greetings and the replies. I greatly appreciate the information. Definitely useful. Honestly by the sounds of it, my best bet seems to be figuring out a way to have it registered somewhere that doesn't have emissions test.

I thought the Holley Terminator X had the ability to install an OBDII port? Maybe I'm thinking about the ProM..

You could build it to run strictly E85 (or do the dual fuel sensor with the TermX) and it would burn clean enough to pass. Though, if part of that emission testing is a visual inspection, you'd fail it anyway.
