Just bought the truck, along with a new to me dana 35 replacement. How do I keep this from happening again?

Rough Country 4 inch lift kit is known as the "diff puncher".

Bummer

Its a fluke so not a "known issue"

From the dirt present, I assume it was a used Dana 35, so most likely had a fault when you got it???
Or is that pic of current front axle housing and you have a replacement?

Info here on the Dana 35: https://www.therangerstation.com/tech_library/dana_28_35.shtml

Good page to bookmark here: https://www.therangerstation.com/tech_library/index.shtml

Has many good articles on all things Ranger, including above Dana 35 article, and more
That is the current diff, new one doesnt have the hole punched

Do you have a rough Country lift in it?

There is an article in the tech library that talks about it. Go there and read the article.

Not sure how to modify that lift to avoid the issue. The tech article may address that. Skyjacker and Duff lift kits don't have that issue. But they're a good bit more expensive.

Only other idea I have is to modify your bump stops to prevent that much uptravel. But we normally like to have as much wheel travel as possible.

Just read the article on the drop plates, I might just stick with what is there. Those lift kiys are pretty pricy. Maybe I'll get lucky.

There is only luck when it comes to those.

It happens when you articulate the suspension enough.

If you plan to wheel it... you would be much better off just biting the bullet and fixing the issue. It will happen again.

I was kinda looking around, could I just get a different axle pivot drop bracket?

Yes. That is what the better lift manufacturers supply. But I'm not sure they will just sell you the bracket alone.

Keep an eye out here in the for sale section. Pieces come up individually sometimes.

Other than that, can always buy the minimum kit.
