how could this happen?


just noticed it the other day. How can I fix it?
 
Could be a dead motor on that gauge. Take your custer out and take the clear cover off of it. See if you can coax it up and over the stop, if not, pull the needle off using a fork or knife. Then plug the cluster in the truck without the clear cover. Start the engine, then set the needle where it would normally be while it's running(mid sweep). Dont push too hard, because you don't know if this fixed it or not. Shut the truck off to see if it moves.

If nothing happens, time to replace the motor on the backside or this is an excellent timefor a gauge cluster swap.
 
I just did the guage cluster swap. Can I just unrotate it to get it back? That's what it looks like it did.
