How can I identify if my d28 has limited slip?

i don't think any d28 was limited slip...

1984-87 Rangers were offered with a Limited slip FRONT axle.

The identifier in the code on a Ranger or Bronco2 is an additional "2"

So a "D7" becomes "D72"

they are VERY rare.

I've seen less than ten in 20 years of looking.

That's cool to know! Thanks! Not that I'm looking for a d28. But I did just find out my dad knew that lol. The first b2 he had was a limited slip d28. Funny lol. Oh well.

my 87 B2 has the l/s d28 in it... that option only came factory with the 3.73 and really rare 4.10 gear ratios... mine is a 3.73... but I'm not even sure if mine works anymore... its probably burned out by now...

dad had a 4.10 limited slip....i'm really jealous now. i couldn't even get a limited slip rear. his first one caught on fire tho... and he replaced it with this one that i ended up with..

Thank you good sir. that answers my question. Alas, a D7 is all I have.

Also, the ID tag is there, but it is now a rusty piece of metal with no discernible anything on it... oh well. I have my answer.

They say by 100k miles consider it open, but also the front axle isn't usually engaged all that much, so it might not be in too bad of shape.

ALL the Rangers and bronco2's I've ever seen with the proper code for a limited slip front axle had another label on the driver's door

About halfway up the window frame

a "supplemental capacity" label, because so far as I remember
all of them were also equipped with the factory installed air-lift bags inside the front coils because the limited slip axle and the air bags were part of the snow plow prep package that was dropped in early 86, though you could stiull buy SOME of the parts ala'carte until 1989.

No kidding, I pulled a 4wd hub off a bronco II the other day that had orange airbags within the coils, and hoses running to a T fitting to a valve stem on the header panel near the radiator cap!
