Home-Brew Extended Radius Arms?

Here are mine. I used Junkies as a reference when I made mine a year ago. After install I had to cut the tabs off where it attaches to the TTB beam and build in some caster.

Home-Brew Extended Radius Arms?

The mounts and new custom tranny x-member.

And as you can see the bushing works good enought to net 18 1/4" travel.

the pre80 fullsize rubber RA bushing work's great.and only 8 bucks at autozone

Yes those are 90-96' TTB F150 mounts. I could always mod them a little to change angle. The best part is them being available straight from the dealer. I woundn't have to hunt for them. Is there a place that has the 70's F150 RA mounts available?

How far back do I really need to take them back for a 3" lift? Maybe just right before the tranny cross member?

Both sides of my crossmember mount on the outside. Like your passenger side junkie. This just causes mounting issues with the Body Mount Brackets & E-Brake Cable Brackets. Isn't there a tranny x-member that mounts inside on both sides. Like the earlier rangers or manual explorers or something? Maybe I'll just end up making my own or working around everything.

I like those RA's Todd.

look for a tranny crossmemember out of a 4.0L, one side mounts on the inside of the frame rail and one side mounts on the outside.its also soild mounted to the frame, unlike the smaller motor trucks that have the two mounts outside of the framerail on bushing mounts.

there is also the "lowrider" trans mount crossmemeber.that both sides mount inside the framerail.

autofabs radius arm mounts use the old style bushings.

If you build your RA mounts like Todd's or mine, you shouldn't have to worry about the trans crossmember (I also don't think the '77down F-150 mounts would pose an issue with 12" extended arms, but not sure).
There's no issues with the bodymount brackets or p-brake brackets either (the p-brake one I drilled out it's rivet and piggy-backed it with one of the upper RA bracket bolts, although I ended up having to put it up higher (only putting it further out of the way) when I put the bodylift on)

Modifying the crossmember doesn't seem like it should have to be any big deal either... (just cut the turned-up end off and weld something onto the topside of it so that it sits inside the framerail).

I wish someone could do a write up on making RA arms. I am going to try and copy yours 4x4junkie.

is 3' of the tube enough to do two arms 12" longer than stock, or should I get 4'? I'm thinking 4' to have some spare and not be short...

considering 12" longer than stock, 3" of overlap over the bushing end of the arm and I imagine about 6" on the beam end, 4' would leave me with 6" to play with in case I wanted to go longer.

The sections I used for my arms were 20" in length to extend them 12". I would plan on using at least that much.

4' it is, unless I find a random length close enough at the metal recycle yard next saturday...
