Hoarding/Junk addiction

I’ve found my people!!! 😂😂 I read two or three pages of these posts, and I’m like, yep, that’s me, I do that too, etc etc.
My name is Rick and I’m a Foarder! 😂😂

Rick, don’t let the mumbling and screeches from the little people bother you…

Don't forget, my name is Richard... Big Richard...

It really is Richard. Sometimes Rick.

My coworkers used to say “You’re being a Richard” 😂

The bar I used to frequent had both a Little Dick and a Big Dick. Both looked opposite their name, Little was huge, and Big was comparatively small. Neither one would I want to get into a scrap with. I was known as Richard....

You can’t have it both ways. If you’re confused, people are calling you Rick by accident. A Rick knows how to present his Rick-ism!

Yep, the little people will do that. They’re intimidated and they’re jealous so they poke fun.

I have never judged other’s endowment. I politely look away.

Yeah....mines not as bad as your neighbors by a long shot.

I think personally, for me, its kind of a poverty mindset. I spent a few years after my first divorce in real bad financial shape...i always had a tendancy to hang onto stuff and pick up junk. But after that it got worse. I did reading about it and its a very hard mindset to break. Im always running in that "keep everything because you might not be able to replace it" mode.

Now my finances are in order (im not rich, but im not struggleing either)...and i just need to realize that hanging onto certain things because "i might need that 15 dollar part that probably isnt any good anyways" doesnt make alot of sense.
I think it's great you have this level of insight. It suggests to me that you'll be able to deal with this finally.

I am continuing to put things on the curb that are worth money, but if I take on the task of selling them, I KNOW I will stay stuck at this point in life. Let them go to their next usefulness; the people receiving them are excited to have things for free, and I find joy in another empty space.

I have a great drywall-and-paint guy going thru all the new spaces and giving them a new life. We're going to turn this house into CASH and throw our remaining stuff in storage so we can travel a bit and see the world! I want that storage locker to be a small one...

I didnt see any other feasable way to get the damn box out.

Besides...by time i figure out reassembly it will, infact, be heat season again
I got a question about this - how do you keep track of all the fasteners and other hardware? I have enough trouble just stripping down washers and dryers. They tend to have machine screws of slightly different lengths distributed across panels. If you get them mixed up, the assembly is not going to go so well....

ever heard the expression "make it fit" ?

countless times I've looked at screw heads and compared them to the witness marks on stuff.
baggies & tape for the first time, usually remember most of it the second time around.

I just got them all tossed in the ashtray lol.

Honestly i usually for whatever reason kinda remember whats what. If i think i wont i remove whatever the bolts are holding then screw them back in to the hole they came from

I’ll chime in at this point. When I was young, I wouldn’t mark anything, and I’d end up with extra parts or doing things twice.

Well, a few years later, you scrape your knuckles enough that you start to remember where stuff goes or maybe you stick it in some tuna fish cans or such.

Then I had a 30-35 year stretch where I pretty much remembered what came from where and I could put it back together.

The problem I’m having now after 55-60 years of taking stuff apart (I’ll be 71 in a couple weeks.), I have some stuff I took apart when I knew where everything went, but now the memory of where they should go has gone went!!

Little scraps of papers in baggies is the way to go. The PhD level is to mark them in order you take stuff apart. baggie 1, baggie 2, etc. and or, finger thread to screw back in the hole after you remove whatever. Then it all goes back together in the reverse order.

Forgive me if I’ve already posted this two or three times, I’m at that stage of “development.”
