Did an overnight hike at the fire lookout on a peak at 5600 ft. across from Mt. Rainer. Amazingly beautiful sunset and sunrise... here are a couple shots out of the many!

That's pretty cool.

I've always wanted to take a trip to the west coast and ride up and down it.

I have been there. A buddy of mine (Maurice ie: mjones) dated a girl whos mom lived in Stillicome, WA (sp?) which is right outside of Tacoma. We went up there for a couple days. It was a blast.

How do park Rangers access the fire lookout? Is it manned at all times, or only if a fire is suspected?

My understanding is that they are manned during the fire season. Fires often don't start with any warning. For instance, idiot smokers don't give notice that they are going to throw lit cigarettes out the window.

Fire season is May - October in California. It's probably somewhat shorter in Washington.

Fire lookouts often have to hike up. They don't need very much equipment.

Funny enough, I don't get to see cool stuff like that here in Michigan. But we have lakes. Lots of lakes.

Very cool pictures, and thanks for sharing. The red hue covering the landscape on the first photograph makes that my hands-down favorite.

I want to frame them and sell them at the roadside fleamarket but that lettering plays merry hell with the feeling of the thing.

High Rock is super cool. I want to get up to Three Fingers Lookout, up near Granite Falls one of these days, but it is a haul to get in there.

Here is a pic I took last weekend of a fire about to activate the comprehensive insurance policy on my Ranger. We were skiing above it on Mt Adams when the fire went from a little smolder to 500 acres (and then 6000 acreas after we left). I had to drive through the edge of it to get out (with the assistance of the forest service fire crew).
