The biggest reason I mentioned the Vic is because they are comfy, tough, reliable, cheap, can tow quite a bit get good mileage and still are respectable performers for what they are(espically the P71s.)
Im quite shocked nobody has mentioned a Saturn S series... Theyre generally an extremely reliable car whether you get a single cam or twin... My advice, get a twin cam SL2, SW2, or possibly SC2... My wifes sl1 single cam auto gets close to 40 mpg highway, and starts every morning. Of course the cars can have WP issues, but its cheap to buy a new one, and the engines tend to leak/use oil after 100k if youre still using 5w-30... My suggestion, use 10w-30 oil and you should be fine... Ive seen many of these on the road with 300k plus miles...
My local car dealership had a 97 saturn SL2 exhibit car that they acquired as a trade in that had 787,683 miles on it... For five bucks you could drive it and see how well the car held up over time... It drove almost as good as my wifes car does at 86k miles...
Could you post a link?i would be much interested in preventing the oil leak in my wifes saturn...
I tried searching TRS and found a bunch of posts about it but didn't recognize the one I thought I saw here...it wasn't that long ago that I read it either because my ex drives a Saturn and I thought it might be something she would need some day...maybe try a Google search...
haha...she's my ex-on, ex-off for 25 years...when she is ex-on I give her advice sometimes...then she becomes my ex-off for a few more years...
Maybe I shouldn't give her advice...????
I like the crown vic, don't understand why Ford quit building them. My aunt and uncle has one that they don't take very good care of but with over 400,000 miles on it, my uncle is still driving it to and from work 60 mile round trips every day. They're great cars, I was saying the tempo because its smaller and better for fuel economy, but the crown vic's size and weight and mid 20's for fuel economy is pretty darn good, plus the trunk in the crown vic is massive. Parts are pretty easy to find given the huge number of them that were once fleet vehicles for many police departments.
They could of eaisly taken the large sedan segment by installing a 5.0 coyote with a 3.5 ecoboost on the cheap side and a minor facelift....but i guess well never know

Unfortunately rather than leaving a vehicle alone that sells, they scrap the whole idea and build junk vehicles instead. Ford lost millions of sales by doing away with the crown vic's due to just about every police department using them, taxi companies using them, and other companies using them as fleet vehicles as well.
Pretty much all the taxis in Omaha have black and white showing through where the red or yellow paint is chipped off and spotlight holes in the DS A piller... not sure how many taxi companies buy new vs hitting the police surplus lots.
