high idle

i have a 94 with 4.0. on start up engine revs to 2000 rpms for a few seconds and then dies. will not idle. what could be problem

Could be th IAc, maf or even the coolant sensor..

i dont want to put much money in truck so how can i check and find out whats wrong

Sounds like vacuum leak. Check for open vacuum hoses, listen for hissing with engine running. Plug the leak, you may find it is fixed.
