dont know why i cant get my ranger to lock in low range some times but it will go in high range fine

did you stop and put it in neutral and hold the brake? sometimes you can be slightly moving (less than 3mph) and pop it into 4lo

What he said, It has to be in neutral and you have to be as close to stopped as possible. Sometimes if you are on a hill, you will have to back up a little to release tension on the driveline for it to engage. Same for disengagement.
